George, with his wife, Ann, and their 8 children used to live in a lovely house off Tubbenden Lane, Orpington called Sunnyside. The trouble is not many people know of him and so the prime objective of the exhibition is to create awareness of this important Orpington resident.
He was John Ruskin’s publisher and so much more. Most people know about local celebrities Charles Darwin and Sir John Lubbock but very few know of George Allen, yet he was part of this hugely influential ‘Orpington Triangle’.
Paul Dawson, a member of Orpington History Organisation, has created a website: www.georgeallen.co.uk and is keen to receive any information about George Allen's house, Sunnyside, particularly photos, between 1945 and 1973 (when it was demolished).
